GALLERY 2

My inspiration for Gallery 2 comes from the endless beaches
in and around the Lleyn Peninsula, North Wales
Belan's Horses Series 2019
My Inspirations

This new body of work has been inspired by Fort Belan and the coastline. Fort Belan was once part of the Glynllifon estate, my shared studio CREU is based in Parc Glynllifon. The fort was built in 1775 by Thomas Wynn, whom later became known as Lord Newborough. Fort Belan was the only purpose-built fort of the American Revolution on the eastern side of the Atlantic.
During World War II the fort was used again for military purposes as the base for the Home Guard.
Fort Belan is set on a dramatic natural coastline and marshland not far from Dinas Dinlle near Parc Glynllifon. At one time the marshland area would have been full of horses left to graze and running in and out of the sea. Working in water colour and studying the way the sea weaves its way in and out of the land I started seeing these horses appear within the painting. I started painting the landscape quite abstract and the flow of paint led me to tell the story. I have called the series Belan’s horses, 1 and 2 etc or Belan 1, 2, 3 etc
